Linkin Park – Somewhere I Belong

Linkin Park - Meteora
I remember when I was younger I would turn on MTV and watch Green Day, Eminem, and Linkin Park music videos. Times have changed, but my taste in music hasn’t changed signficantly since I began making my own choices in what to play. Two weeks ago, I went on a road trip with my family to New York and back, and I decided to play Linkin Park. I used to admire Linkin Park, but for some reason I stopped listening to them ever since I was told they were going “mainstream.” I put on their first album, Hybrid Theory…loved it. Next came Meteora…excellent. I began to remember why I enjoyed their music so much. Maybe it’s Mike Shinoda’s rhymes that I can relate to, or maybe it’s Chester’s choruses that strike the same as if I had heard them for the first time. I consider these albums to be timeless classics.

On one of those nights on my road trip, I went on their YouTube channel and realized how many albums had been released and how much they’ve grown as a band since I stopped listening to them. “The Catalyst” and “Burn It Down”, although different from their original sound, are great, and I actually prefer that they’ve changed their style because now there are multiple sounds of Linkin Park to choose from. I recently bought their last two albums, “A Thousand Suns” and “Living Things”, and I’m waiting for them to ship. Until then, I will continue to listen to “Somewhere I Belong”, “In the End”, and “Pushing Me Away”, hits from their first two albums, and be able to enjoy most of their work. Linkin Park as a band are great role models, and I truly believe if I had a band of my own, LP would be my greatest influence. Here is “Somewhere I Belong”, off their second album “Meteora”.
